For the final week of Rock-It Science, we made stuff combust. It was really bright. First we learned about combustion and about how if you hold a magnifying glass over an ant in bright sunshine that it will catch fire. Then we pulled out mirrors and tested what happened when we put them in the sun and shined the reflection on something. After that, we went inside and built “boats” made out of paper bags, construction paper and black cloth. Once our “creations” were finished, we took them outside and waited, and waited, and waited for them to combust. We started to get bored right away. My friend Colin and I were pointing the mirrors at each other to see if something would catch fire. We were VERY silly. :P After a while Mr. Mac went inside and brought out a huge mirror to help our tiny mirrors and, once it caught the sunlight, all of the boats spontaneously combusted. It was fun to watch them, especially since on of the guys in my class pretended to “scream” in terror and shout, “Abort! Abort! Ship’s on fire! Drop your pizza, men! Captain, I’m afraid you’re gonna have to go down with the ship.” Everyone was laughing their butts off. It was a great way to spend our last science lab.
